Fundraising does more good than the revenue it produces

I’ve met a number of professional fundraisers who don’t get it. They think they’re taking something away from donors every time they motivate donors to give.

That’s because they’re only thinking about money. They aren’t thinking about all the other things that matter a lot more than money.

Margaret has noticed this too, and writes about it in FundRaising Success at Hand Me a Blessing:

If you aren’t aware of the blessing that is giving but you’ve chosen a career that hinges on you asking people to give, there could be a couple of issues at play. Maybe, deep down, you equate asking for donations with begging…. Or worse, maybe you’re arrogant, overly proud of your prowess at separating people from their money.

Your donors are getting more out of it than you are. Their account is fuller after they give than it was before.

If you don’t know that, I can guarantee you are less effective, and less happy, than you ought to be.

What this blog is about

The future of fundraising is not about social media, online video, or SEM. It’s not about any technology, medium, or technique. It’s about donors. If you need to raise funds from donors, you need to study them, respect them, and build everything you do around them. And the future? It’s already here. More.
