When will email fundraising fade away?

We’ve heard from more than one “expert” that email is a dying fundraising medium, being replaced by various fad-of-the-week social platforms.

Which is silly.

As the Emma Blog notes, email is not dying. Why email will never die:

  • It’s personal, but not too personal.
  • It’s cost-effective.
  • It’s measurable.
  • It just works.

Email fundraising is so far from dying. It’s really still being born: Growing by double digits every year. Still finding its audience. Still learning its techniques.

If you aren’t using email for fundraising, you should start now. If you are using it, don’t listen to the weasels who say it’s already fading.

I completely agree–though I confess your heading got me going at first!

  3. Great headline! Totally agree that nonprofits are really just getting started with email. One thing I hope to see more organizations do is segment emails in similar ways to how we’ve been doing it in direct mail for years. That email address wasn’t free to acquire, but once they unsubscribe they are gone forever!

What this blog is about

The future of fundraising is not about social media, online video, or SEM. It’s not about any technology, medium, or technique. It’s about donors. If you need to raise funds from donors, you need to study them, respect them, and build everything you do around them. And the future? It’s already here. More.
