Is raising funds the right thing to do right now?

Tired? Discouraged? Wondering if fundraising is the right way for you to spend your time and energy in times like these?

I have two things to tell you today:

  1. What you are doing now as a fundraiser is critically important — no matter what your cause. Anything that was important before the crisis is important now. Maybe more so.
  2. Your donors need you to ask for funds! Fundraising takes nothing away from them; you leave them richer and healthier than before.

Read this from the MarketSmart blog, at A pep talk for fundraisers like you:

You have the power to make your donors feel good, if you remind them that they can be the heroes in this situation. They’ll feel good if you show them how they can find meaning in their lives during this desperate period of distress … if you tell them stories about others … who are stepping up … to make a difference. They’ll feel good if you engage with them, find out how they are feeling, and — if appropriate — offer them opportunities to provide support.

If there’s any misgiving in your heart or mind that the job of raising funds is ignoble, a con-job, a necessary evil … work hard at replacing that self-destructive (and self-fulfilling) idea with the better truth that you are not only making the world a better place, but helping donors become better people.

Because that’s the real truth. And it’s more poignantly and powerfully true now than ever.

There’s one more thing I want to show you now, while things are tough: COVID-19 Fundraising Success Stories at Bloomerang. It’s case study after case study of fundraisers just like you who have been raising record levels of revenue during the crisis. Just by doing things right.

They’re doing it, and you can too.

Be kind to yourself and to others. And keep raising funds.

We need you!
