What to do when you’re getting tired of asking donors to give

It’s easy to get tired of asking.

It’s even easier to get the sense that you shouldn’t be asking as often as you do.

But those feelings — both of them — are feelings within you. They have little to do with donors. Assuming that your feelings mirror those of donors is a fundamental error that can kill your fundraising.

A better way of thinking about this is to acknowledge that the way things feel for you and for donors are not closely connected. Because you put so much energy and thought into each time you ask, you grow tired of asking a lot sooner than they even notice you’re there.

Here’s some helpful perspective from the Fundraising Coach at Don’t Grow Weary:

Most of our donors are extremely busy people. Generous, but extremely busy. So your consistent, reliable attempts to contact them are actually a service. You are trying to help them do another valuable thing with their time and money.

Don’t psych your self out before you’ve got through to them!

What this blog is about

The future of fundraising is not about social media, online video, or SEM. It’s not about any technology, medium, or technique. It’s about donors. If you need to raise funds from donors, you need to study them, respect them, and build everything you do around them. And the future? It’s already here. More.
