It’s one of the top killers of philanthropy: The assumption that donors don’t like to give and should be asked as little as possible or as indirectly as you can.
Not even close to the truth. Here’s why, from Clairification, at Do You Assume Donors Don’t Want to Be Asked?
Donors want to give, and they want to be asked to give. Here’s why:
- Donors want to be asked because they’re starved for the love that comes from voluntary giving and receiving.
- Donors need to be asked because when they’re not, they don’t know how much you need their help.
Donating helps fill their lives with meaning. It empowers them and reminds them what matters most to them.
Giving is better than receiving; it’s a way to express love and to feel loved.
Fundraising goes better when you know this. It’s also a lot more fun!
