Quick ideas for better fundraising subject lines

The first place for improving your email fundraising results is to improve your subject lines. Here are some great tips from Hubspot marketing, at How to Write Catchy Email Subject Lines: 17 Tips:

  1. Keep it short and sweet. Aim for under 50 characters.
  2. Use a familiar sender name.
  3. Use personalization. Yes, put the recipient’s name in the subject line.
  4. Segment your lists. Be as relevant as possible to everyone.
  5. Don’t make false promises
  6. Do tell them what’s inside.
  7. Time it right.
  8. Use concise language.
  9. Start with action-oriented verbs.
  10. Make people feel special. use phrases like ” private invitation.”
  11. Create a sense of importance.
  12. Use numbers.
  13. Pose a compelling question. But avoid bland yes-or-no questions.
  14. Don’t be afraid to get punny. But be careful not to overdo it.
  15. DON’T USE ALL CAPS or overuse exclamation points!!!
  16. Use engaging preview text.
  17. A/B test your subject lines.
