Great post at Seth Godin’s blog: What’s new?
That’s the wrong question. It’s better to ask, “What’s effective?”
The technology keeps changing, but connection and trust are what still work. Ideas that spread, win. Ideas that stick are worth even more. You can race to be first on a new platform, but it’s far better to be the voice that we would miss if you weren’t there.
We all suffer from FOMO: Fear Of Missing Out. That makes us vulnerable to distractions, con-jobs, and Shiny Object Syndrome.
Be aware of interesting new ideas. Imagine how they might help you reach donors. But keep effectiveness in the front of your thoughts.
What’s effective?
- Putting tangible action in front of donors.
- Thanking donors and reporting back.
- Clean, accurate data.
- Superb donor service.
Old stuff. Boring stuff. Don’t let “what’s new” distract you from these things.
